Benefits of Ramadan

Dear Brother’s and Sister’s,

Today I would like to talk about the benefits and the beauty of the month of Ramadan. This month is for 30 days in which us as Muslims will fast to draw spiritual closeness to our one Lord Allah(SWT). To show how important this month is I am going to list below a few hadiths from the Prophet(SAWS) and various verses from the Quran itself.

Narrated Abu Huraira(r.a): The Prophet said:”… whoever fasts during Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari).

“Ramadan is the (month) in which the Quran was sent down, as a guide to mankind and a clear guidance and judgment (so that mankind will distinguish from right and wrong)..” (Q 2:183)

“Oh you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you many learn piety and rightousness” (Qur’an, al-Baqarah, 2:183)

Abdullah ibn `Amr reported that the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said: “The fast and the Qur’an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. The fast will say: ‘O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Let me intercede for him.’ The Qur’an will say: ‘I prevented him from sleeping at night. Let me intercede for him.’ And their intercession will be accepted.” [Ahmad]

Abu Umamah reported: “I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: ‘Order me to do a deed that will allow me to enter Paradise.’ He said: ‘Stick to fasting, as there is no equivalent to it.’ Then I came to him again and he said: ‘Stick to fasting.”‘ [Ahmad, an-Nasa’i, and al-Hakim].

Sahl ibn Sa’d reported that the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said: “There is a gate to Paradise that is called ar-Rayyan. On the Day of Resurrection it will say: ‘Where are those who fasted?’ When the last [one] has passed through the gate, it will be locked.” [al-Bukhari and Muslim].

In another hadith, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) says, “Ramadan has come to you. (It is) a month of blessing, in which Allah covers you with blessing, for He sends down Mercy, decreases sins and answers prayers. In it, Allah looks at your competition (in good deeds), and boasts about you to His angels. So show Allah goodness from yourselves, for the unfortunate one is he who is deprived in (this month) of the mercy of Allah, the Mighty, the Exalted.” [Narrated by Tabarani]

SubhanAllah, look at all the benefits of fasting in this month and abiding to the law of our Lord. InshaAllah we all continue this and attain Jannah-al-Firdaus. In the link below is something to possibly guide you towards your life as a seeker of truth. Please check out the shopping page also.

Night of the Moon: A Muslim Holiday Story

Dear Brother’s and Sister’s,

I would like to explain to people, especially older generation of people who grew up in a society or culture in which having a son is the best thing in the world and having a daughter is not so great, that we should really love and cherish your daughters because this is one of the biggest Mercy’s of Allah(SWT) for you.

I personally know adults who complain about having a daughter and wishing they had a son. I also personally know girls who’s parents have told them once in their lives that they wished for a son more than a daughter. Honestly, that is mean and disgusting. Allah(SWT) put both man and woman as equal beings who need to care for one another. As a Muslim parent one should not fall back into the cultural and patriarchal ideology that a son will bring you money and provide and etc. We have to realize that the Prophet(SAW) told us to be happy and rejoice for your daughters as it is a mercy of Allah(SWT) for us.

Here are some hadiths about blessings and mercies of having a daughter:

Narrated ‘Aisha(the wife of the Prophet) A lady along with her two daughters came to me asking me (for some alms), but she found nothing with me except one date which I gave to her and she divided it between her two daughters, and then she got up and went away. Then the Prophet came in and I informed him about this story. He said, “Whoever is in charge of (put to test by) these daughters and treats them generously, then they will act as a shield for him from the (Hell) Fire.” (Sahih Bukahri)

Hazrat Anas (radiyallahu anhu) reports Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, “The person who successfully brings up two daughters until they reach maturity, then on the day of Qiyamah (Judgement) Myself and that person will be like this (Rasulullah) indicated closeness by bringing together his index and middle fingers) (Sahih Muslim)

[ There are narrations where Prophet(SAW) even said one daughter].

Even with the Prophet(SAW) own daughter the love and compassion for them was immense. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam)  used to say, “Fathima is a portion of my flesh, whosoever hurts her, certainly hurts me”(Sahih Bukhari)

Basically I want to say is that love, cherish, and understand your daughters because it helps you become more humble, patient, a better person, and it is a ticket to Junnah.

Insha’Allah I ask Allah(SWT) to forgive us, guide us, protect us, and enter us all in Junnah-al-Firdaus.

Dear Brother’s and Sister’s,

I would like to share with you some narrations and even an ayat from the Quran to talk to you about the blessings, importance, and benefits of tahajjud prayer( the night prayer). Even though this is not a mandatory prayer, this is the prayer, after the fard(mandatory), as regarded with the highest standard. I know it is hard to wake up for tahajjud and I am guilty of myself for not trying to wake up for tahajjud as much as I should. This prayer is so special and so magnificent that once you read the Quran ayat and all the hadiths that Insha’Allah we will all try to incorporate this prayer in our lives.

Here is the Quran ayat about praying in the night:

“Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur’an of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed. And from [part of] the night, pray with it as additional [worship] for you; it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station.” (Surah Isra, 17:78-79).

Here are some hadiths about tahajjud:

Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “Our Lord Descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: `Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?”[ Bukhari and Muslim.]

Abdullah ibn `Amr reports that the Prophet (saws) said: “The most beloved fast to Allah is the fast of (Prophet) Dawood (a.s.). And the most beloved prayer to Allah is the prayer of (Prophet) Dawood (a.s.). He (Prophet Dawood (a.s.)) would sleep half of the night and then pray during the next third of the night and then sleep during the last sixth of the night. And he would fast one day and not fast the next.”[ Bukhari and Muslim.]

Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and companions) said, “The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the night prayer.”[Muslim]

Abd Allah ibn Salam (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and companions) said, “O people! Spread the salams, feed others, maintain family ties, and pray at night when others sleep and you will enter Heaven safely.”[Tirmidhi, Hakim]

Narrated Al-Mughira: The Prophet(SAW) used to stand (in the prayer) or pray till both his feet or legs swelled. He was asked why (he offered such an unbearable prayer) and he said, “should I not be a thankful slave.” [Bukahri]

Narrated Salim’s father: In the life-time of the Prophet(SAW) whosoever saw a dream would narrate it to Allah’s Apostle(SAW). I had a wish of seeing a dream to narrate it to Allah’s Apostle (p.b.u.h) I was a grown up boy and used to sleep in the Mosque in the life-time of the Prophet. I saw in the dream that two angels caught hold of me and took me to the Fire which was built all round like a built well and had two poles in it and the people in it were known to me. I started saying, “I seek refuge with Allah from the Fire.” Then I met another angel who told me not to be afraid. I narrated the dream to Hafsa who told it to Allah’s Apostle(SAW). The Prophet(SAW) said, “Abdullah is a good man. I wish he prayed Tahajjud.” After that ‘Abdullah (i.e. Salim’s father) used to sleep but a little at night.  [Bukhari]

Narrated ‘Aisha: Allah’s Apostle(SAW) used to offer eleven Rakat and that was his prayer. He used to prolong the prostration to such an extent that one could recite fifty verses (of the Quran) before he would lift his head. He used to pray two Rakat (Sunna) before the Fajr prayer and then used to lie down on his right side till the call-maker came and informed him about the prayer.  [Bukhari]

As you can see there are an enormous amount of blessings and the great importance to this prayer. Insha’Allah we all turn back to Allah(SWT) and ask for forgiveness, guidance, protection, and Junnah-al-Firdaus.

Dear Brother’s and Sister’s,

I would like to share with you a very splendid and beautiful hadith about the mercy of Allah(SWT) and how he is the most forgiving. Insh’Allah we will keep turning back to Allah(SWT) for repentance because anything and everything can be forgiven.  Everybody has their pasts, but thats it, its the past not the present or future. We all need to strive to make forward progression in our lives and not let the past get to us. So do not ever lose hope in Allah(SWT) mercy and forgiveness.

The hadith is:

Allah’s Messenger (saw) said: “Allah the Most High says: ‘O son of Adam! As long as you supplicate to Me and hope in Me, I will forgive you what you have done. O son of Adam! If your sins were to reach the lofty regions of the sky, then you ask Me for forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of Adam! If you were to come to Me with enough sins to fill the earth, but you met Me not associating anything with Me I would bring you the like of it of forgiveness.” [Bukhari, 8/319]

Allah(SWT) mercy and forgiveness is unfathomable because this type of mercy does not exist anywhere. If a person transgresses and keeps on transgressing until all the transgressions can be counted up reaching towards the sky and the final result is forgiveness as long as we turned back to Allah(SWT) then why should we let one prayer slip away.

Insha’Allah we all turn back to Allah(SWT) and seek guidance, protection, mercy, and forgiveness through Allah(SWT) because it is He who can change up our fortune of our lives in this life and the next.

Dear Brother’s and Sister’s,

I would like to share with you some hadiths that convey how sending praises(Durood) to the beloved Prophet Muhammad(SAW) is a great blessing for us. As we all know, Prophet Muhammad(SAW) is a man with the best of character and is the man who will testify for us on the Day of Judgement. So it is beneficial for us to send Durood towards are beloved Prophet Muhammad(SAW).

Here are some hadiths about the benefits of Durood:

Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “He who sends a single Durood upon me, Almighty Allah rewards him ten times and ten good deeds are recorded in his book of good deeds”. (Tirmidhi)

Abdullah ibn Masood (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that  Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “On the Day of Qiyamah, the closest to me from among the people will be those that have read the most amount of Durood”. (Tirmidhi: Kanzul Amaal)

Abu Talha (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that he once entered the Court of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and noticed that the Habeeb of Almighty Allah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) was in a state of great joy and happiness. When he inquired as to the reason for this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied that, “Why should I not be happy and joyous? At this very moment Sayyiduna Jibra’el Ameen (alaihis salaam) has brought me a message. Almighty Allah has declared, ‘O Muhammad! Are you not pleased with this, that if any of your followers sends a single Durood upon you, I and My Angels (Malaa’ikah) send ten blessings upon that person, ten of his sins are pardoned and ten good deeds are recorded in his favour. He who sends Salaams upon you, I send Salaams upon him, so therefore, notify your Ummah of this good news and tell them that it is now left to them to either increase or decrease the recital of the Durood Shareef'”. (Nisaai)

Abdullah ibn Masood (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that, “I read my Salaah in the Masjid when Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) were present. When I had completed the Salaah, I began to praise Almighty Allah. Thereafter, I began to read the Durood Shareef. When I started the Du’a, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) exclaimed, ‘Ask, and you shall receive, you shall receive!'”. (Tirmidhi)

Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “On the Pillars of the Arsh of Almighty Allah are written the following words, ‘He who desires to meet Me, I bless him. He who asks from Me, I grant him. He who reads the Durood upon my Habeeb (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) desiring My closeness, I pardon his sins, even if it be more than the foams of the ocean'”. (Dalaa’ilul Khayraat)

Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “There is a purifier and a refinement for everything. For the heart of a Muslim, a means of purification and refinement is through the recital of the Durood Shareef”. (Al Qolul Badi)

Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “O my followers! Your recital of the Durood Shareef is a protector for your Du’as. It also achieves for you the Pleasure of Almighty Allah and it purifies your actions”. (Sadaatud Daarain)

There are many different Durood’s, but I linked one. Find out online about the other Durood’s.

There are many more hadiths on the benefits of Durood, but even with this much we can see how beneficial for us in this dunya(world) and in the Ahkirah(Hereafter) reciting the Durood is.

Insha’Allah that we turn to Allah(SWT) and ask for his forgiveness, guidance, protection, and to enter us all into Junnah al Firdaus.

Dear Brother’s and Sister’s,

I would like to say that if you have done terrible things in your life that you should be patient and turn to Allah(SWT) because it is unfathomable how merciful Allah(SWT) is.  Below are two hadiths that explain the mercy of Allah(SWT).

Abu Huraira (radi allahu anhu) reported: I heard Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) as saying: Allah created mercy in one hundred parts and He retained with Him ninety-nine parts, and He has sent down upon the earth one part, and it is because of this one part that there is mutual love among the creation so much so that the animal lifts up its hoof from its young, one, fearing that it might harm it.  (Muslim)

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (radi allahu anhu): The Prophet(sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “Amongst the men of Bani Israel there was a man who had murdered ninety-nine persons. Then he set out asking (whether his repentance could be accepted or not). He came upon a monk and asked him if his repentance could be accepted. The monk replied in the negative and so the man killed him. He kept on asking till a man advised to go to such and such village.(So he left for it) but death overtook him on the way. While dying, he turned his chest towards that village (where he had hoped his repentance would be accepted), and so the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment quarreled amongst themselves regarding him. Allah ordered the village (towards which he was going) to come closer to him, and ordered the village (whence he had come), to go far away, and then He ordered the angels to measure the distances between his body and the two villages. So he was found to be one span closer to the village (he was going to). So he was forgiven.” (Bukari)

Now imagine how merciful and forgiving Allah(SWT) is. A man killed 100 people and he pushed away and brought closer certain towns to fill the requirements for this man to be forgiving. Allah(SWT) wants to forgive mankind. He wants to send mankind to paradise. That’s why he divided his mercy into 100 parts, in which he held 99 for himself to be merciful for mankind. This why as we must always turn back to Allah(SWT) for repentance, forgiveness, guidance, and strength.

Quran: “Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”” (Surah Az-Zumar, 39:53).

Dear Brother’s and Sister’s,

I would like to tell everyone that every single person has his past. Every single person has done something stupid in their lives. All one must do is strengthen their faith and hope in Allah (SWT) because Allah(SWT) is Ar-Rahim, the all merciful, Ar-Gaffar, the forgiver, and Al-Wadud, the loving one.

I would like to share with you two hadiths about how forgiving and merciful Allah(SWT) is:

Narrated by Abu Huraira(radiyallahu anhu) : The Prophet(sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “While a dog was going round a well and was about to die of thirst, an Israeli prostitute saw it and took off her shoe and watered it. So Allah forgave her because of that good deed.” (Volume 4, Book 56, Number 673, Bukhari)

Narrated by Abu Sa’id(radiyallahu anhu): The Prophet(sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “Amongst the people preceding your age, there was a man whom Allah had given a lot of money. While he was in his death-bed, he called his sons and said, ‘What type of father have I been to you? They replied, ‘You have been a good father.’ He said, ‘I have never done a single good deed; so when I die, burn me, crush my body, and scatter the resulting ashes on a windy day.’ His sons did accordingly, but Allah gathered his particles and asked (him), ‘What made you do so?’ He replied, “Fear of you.’ So Allah bestowed His Mercy upon him. (forgave him).” (Volume 4, Book 56, Number 684, Bukhari)

Now can you even imagine the forgiving nature of Allah(SWT). It is incomparable. Allah(SWT) forgave a prostitute for just giving a dying dog water. Also Allah(SWT) bestowed His mercy upon a man who claims to have not done any good deeds. Who on this earth can be that forgiving. No one at all.

So I would like to leave off by saying no matter what your past is, you should push forward, go to Allah(SWT), and repent to him with sincerity because Allah(SWT) is At-Tawwab, the granter and accepter of repentance.
